I love this recipe. It was inspired by one of the meal suggestions from the Whole30 program in “It Starts With Food”. I’ve upped the ante by adding in some super nutrient-dense ingredients. This meal is always a family-pleaser, plus it’s quick and easy.
Nutrient Bomb Burger Bowls
6 strips bacon
1/2 cup shredded frozen grass-fed beef liver
2 lbs. grass-fed ground beef
1/2 tsp. each of garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder
sea salt and pepper to taste
cultured pickles (homemade or Bubbie’s)
ketchup (this recipe from the 21DSD is so tasty and only sweetened with apples!)
cheese (if you tolerate dairy)
sauerkraut (homemade or Bubbie’s)
Cut up the bacon into 1/4-1/2 inch pieces. Warm up a large frying pan to medium heat and start to cook the bacon pieces. When they are almost crisp, add the ground beef and liver. Stirring occasionally, heat until cooked through. Season with the garlic, onion, chili powder, salt and pepper.
Assemble the bowls. Place a handful of spinach in each bowl and top with the meat mixture. Dress with the ketchup, mustard, and mayo, and arrange the tomatoes, peppers, pickles and any optional topics you like on top. Serve while hot.
Alternatives: When starting the bacon in the pan, add chopped onions or peppers.
